OK Beth and I have been eating our greens this past two months. And I must say its been quite a surprise! My first thoughts we're crumbs its lettuce and cabbage time.  But I was determined to have a good go at it, for two reasons actually three. One its good for your cholesterol, two its good for the animals that share this planet with us, if we're not constantly eating them.  Imagine what its like to be born and then spend the rest of your life being fed and watered just to be eaten when you reached your optimum size. Hi, been off lately with the dreaded swine flu. Not that bad really but it is virulent, its given me a tickly chest slight nasal trouble etc.. The usual really, but in response have eaten plenty of Garlic, Lemons, Satsumas, Greens, excellent home cooked food too. No packaged rubbish, don't know how this would affect older persons. Major downside I have not been riding Fausto my road bike, real bummer, I walk past Fausto often, lent against the other bikes in the hallway. Soon Fausto, Soon, we will be cruising along the country lanes travelling at ease and enjoying the freedom. But for now, Hot......

OK Beth and I have been eating our greens this past two months.

And I must say its been quite a surprise!

The green ones.My first thoughts we’re crumbs its lettuce and cabbage time.  But I was determined to have a good go at it, for two reasons actually three. One its good for your cholesterol, two its good for the animals that share this planet with us, if we’re not constantly eating them.  Imagine what its like to be born and then spend the rest of your life being fed and watered just to be eaten when you reached your optimum size.

Unless of cause you are a spring lamb!

I have a brain and I understand fear, and we know that other animals understand fear too,  after all the Gazelle would not flee from the Lion if did not understand fear.  The Lion would just saunter up to the Gazelle and say ” look here I’m having a few friends around for dinner this evening I wonder if you would like to come” to which the Gazelle having no fear would say ” but of cause should I bring a friend!”.

You look very prettyThis does not happen well apart from in Hollywood style Films.

Three its good for the Planet especially if we buy only organic.

So we have been trying to do this. I must admit my fears were unfounded the recipes are actually quite tasty and textured.

I feel a headache coming on!Also the washing up is much easier because your not scraping burnt sticky animal fats of pans afterwards which takes a while sometimes needing soaking over night.

Cooking time is down saving on energy use.

Eating is much more interesting because usually we have not eaten this particular recipe before. It brings adventure back to food, which really had become quite predictable.

Plus my taste buds are being exercised a lot more.

No more salted fatty foods making me wedged to my seat.

Eat your greens? most definately!

Flu gone, bike punctures fixed OK I purchased new inner tubes! Much easier! Also purchase Teflon Bike lubricant which Fausto appreciated.  The sprockets positively brimmed afterwards. Well maybe not but the chain ran smooth. In a short while Fausto my road bike slash racer will get a well anticipated ride around the block, whilst Beth takes the Bickerton Portable for its jaunt.

Here are some pictures of Beth and I on the Classic Bickerton Portable.

I rode it very short distance as I’m too big, Beth rode right around the block she loves it, named it Dinky.

Dinky is having a little service soon wheels will be re spoked, new matching rear tyre, Alloy will be polished, cables checked and probably replaced although they seem in good condition.

Dinky is in good condition for his age, the Jack Russell of the Cycle world! GRRRRRRR!!

Heres an advert ofr Bickerton Portable 1983
This is the Bickerton TV advertisement from November 1983. It was put together for Bickerton Rowlinson Ltd by Sharps advertising, who subsequently became Dorland (part of Saatchi and Saatchi). This was a brave 1st for a small bike company. Amazingly Bickerton Bikes were able to afford to run this ad on Channel 4 in most UK regions, because the advert was acceptable when many others were not due to the Equity strike at the time. The name Bickerton is still synonymous with folding bikes, and it is amazing how many people still remember this advert 24 years on! For more info see www.bickertonbicycles.co.uk If anyone has a better quality recording please contact Mark Bickerton through the website.

Been working on two bicycles recently, road bikes for traveling further a field. Both have gears for going faster and getting up steep hills.

The one post here is mine Fausto as I have named him. After the great Fausto Coppi (Italion cycling tour de france champion). The bike is made up basically from scratch, which was great  as it meant I could choose what went on it, rather than just taking what is given to me at the bike shop.

Bike shops are good but you tend to have the cheapest parts put on expensive bikes where possible.  Plus with the advent of Ebay you can now bid and purchase parts cheaper if you time your biding right, its all about spotting the bargain, I won’t go into to that too much!

But basically I have a Fausto Coppi frame and forks with Shimano gears and cassette and Chain set.

The tyres are Vittoria Rubino Puncture proof, I actually got these because they are black and blue and my frame is dark blue with white and yellow. Thought it looked cool and its my build job so I could do it my way.

Parts:

  • Frame an Forks: Fausto Coppi Reparto Corse Alloy KC Lux
  • Wheels: Hybrid / Road Vuelta Vision By Roddi
  • Hubs: Formula
  • Tyres: Vittoria Rubino
  • Cassette: HG 50 Shimano
  • Chain set: Shimano Dur Ace 7701
  • Bottom Bracket: New Shimano 105 5500 : 70 24×36T 109.5
  • Rear Derailor: Shimano Ultrega RD 6500
  • Front Derailor: Shimano 105 FD 5501
  • Chain: YBN Gold Super light Ti 9 speed
  • STI Shifters: Shimano SL R770 Rapid Fir
  • Brakes: New Brakes Shimano Tiagra 4500 Dual pivot and pads
  • Brake Levers: Alloy Shimano
  • Seat: Giant Racing seat
  • Cables: Teflon

Ok now to scare you with pictures I’m in them in me jimjams.

Me holding at angle very light about 20 pounds.

I was just reading my Sketch group forum and read the post by InkandBrush, and it reminded me of something very important.

Heres the post.

  • inkandbrush said 1 hour ago:

Someone asked me why I did Graphite Drawings..since no one seems interested in Black and white drawings or paintings.
Had to think about it a bit. I guess I draw for a couple of reasons. The challenge is to me, unlike painting with color…it is much harder to the the proper shading in a Graphite drawing. And I just like drawing sometimes as a change.
I do know most people have no interest in Black & White Drawings, no matter how well done.

Paper I am using is hot press, “Aquella Fabriano Artistico Bright White Watercolor Paper”, and the pencils I am using are the “Staedtler Lumograph” graphite pencils.
I do not really need to use the Hot press paper, any good graphite paper will do. But I feel this paper holds up very well and I like the feel of it when the graphite goes on.

Also like my black eraser, blending sticks and this blob of blue stuff from the UK.

My response.

Its important to do it your own way, in Art, when I was art school I was constantly being told by other students how approach something. What style I should be doing, this annoyed quite a lot, they claimed to be modern artist, but all they were doing was following the latest artistic trend, to get them into University and choosing the teachers style, I felt this was very sad, not what art is about for me.
I used to purposely decide at the split second, which style to do a piece in and then change my mind, “I think I’ll do an abstract no an minimalist piece, oh no sod it I’ll do a cartoon pop art instead”, it used get me a good reception, very warm. Funny they never got it, well apart from Dave he just used to grin, he was doing his thing.

  • Be true to thine self!

All artist and great persons in history have had this same belief, be true to thine self, follow your own star.

If all we do is follow the latest trend then we are just sheep, what we paint, draw, sculpt, perform is up to us and how we do it.

Confucius said “there is one thing that is certain, Change.”

We can follow change or we affect change!

Which one are you, did you do it because everybody else did it, or do you do it because it is what you want to do, and to hell with the rest.
