Photography in Oregon

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

I am an Artist of many mediums because so many things inspire me. I take photographs to use as references for my paintings and I also take photographs because I love what I see and want to share it with the World.

My DH and I took a walk in our small but very beautiful woodlands on our old NW Oregon Farm. It was a cool morning with the clouds just coming over the hills in the distance. I love to be in the woods, one can hear the birds, the winds blowing in the trees, it is heaven not to hear man made things.
I have decided to share parts of our peace on earth, with a small collection of photographs.
Photo taken with my Evolt 510 camera.
Right now they are only being offered at my Redbubble and ImageKind stores.
I can put them up on any other of my online stores if requested. :O)

Might start doing these simple ones again.

Corsair Work in Progress

Friday, September 25th, 2009

This is the photograph I took, that I am using for this piece. Is of my Favorite fighter the FG-1D Corsair, Navy didn’t like them much as these planes were pretty much blind when landing and taking off. Other wise they were a good fighter.
It will be done in Watercolor pencil with a small addition of Ink. Not quite the way I normally do my paintings but I wanted to try to do most of this painting in watercolor.

Here I pencil in the rough shape of the Corsair.
Just started on a murky type of sky background.
Adding the first layers of watercolor and a bit of ink in the dark areas under the wing.
Bit more layers of color, 2nd wash of color on the left wing, first wash of color on the props.
More color and just started adding a bit of depth.
Question- I was asked how I used my watercolor pencils?
I use a larger square brush for the background and yes I use my watercolor pencils. Use them “about” like you would use a cake of watercolor. Except with the pencil it is easier for me.
Use Wet to Wet method for the backgrounds.
I wet my brush use the pencil to rub color directly on my brush and apply paint to the slightly damp watercolor paper.
Detail is done in the same way but just with a smaller brush, can be wet to wet or wet to dry. It takes practice to learn how much watercolor to rub on your brush.
On paintings like this, I never put watercolor pencil to paper as it will not give me the results I want.

I spent a number of hours penciling detail in, around the engine. Started adding color to the inside of the engine and props.

Am taking my time adding the dark shading around the engine, added another layer of color on the props. Still lots of color to
add to the engine. It looks like it should be simple to paint but it is anything but simple. Also working on the wing shading.

Continuing to work on the engine, have been spending time working on the lower engine components.
More shading to the body work which needs to be built up slowly to get the best depth.
Added one more wash to the blades.
Should only be a couple more weeks before it is finished.

After about a week break from painting to work on my yarn, I am again working on the Corsair.
Have been working on the lower engine detail and the underside of the fighter. Slowly working layers of color to get the best depth I can.
Still a lot of detail to do.

I put the finishing touches on this old Corsair just this morning. It is sitting on a dirt run away with an ominious sky in the back ground. I have used my favorite 140lb hot press paper, Watercolor pencil and Ink.

I have to admit…I really like painting Fighters a lot… even more so than horses, if you can believe it.

Motorcycle ~ Pen and Ink Work in Progress

Friday, September 25th, 2009

This is the Yamaha Motorcycle Pen & Ink with watercolor pencil wash I did. Took a little over 6 months to finish. Sadly some of the stages were lost when one of my computers died. But this will give you some idea what is involved.
First stage is penciling in,, this can take me a lot of time because of the detail and making sure I get the balance.
Then the start of Ink and then many layers of Ink and wash.

It is offered for sale on my online stores. You can find the web addresses to my stores here.

Please visit to see the wide variety of cards and matching stamps I have created so far. I wil be creating more in the next few weeks, so visit often.

Remember buying cards on Zazzle is cheaper if you buy in bulk, so get friends together and save.

My ever expanding quest creating digital Art ~

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

This free 3D program is new to me and I want to Thank Syd for letting me know about it. I have been playing with some circles… planets if you will, to make a Stylized abstract creation called, Falling into the Void. I am not sure if I am going to offer it for sale on my online shops or not? Let me know what you think! (I have since added these pieces to only two shops at this point)

This next peace I have called “Drifting Away”. These creations are fairly small and the resolution is not as high as I would want but it is a good learning curve. Keep pushing buttons until I get what I want. LOL

Last night I was tired of doing Holiday cards so I decided to play with the Bryce program again and this is what I came up with. Was playing with the depth, light and shadows. This piece is much higher Res and I really enjoy creating with this program. Now if I could just figure out how to make a Whale!

Abstract Fractal Art

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

I am an Artist that likes and enjoys creating in many different mediums. One of my newest enjoyments is Fractal Art.

I am back to my circles and reflections. This is a playful rendition of spinning galaxies in the mix of fiery young stars…
One of the nice things about Abstract, it could just about be any thing, so let your mind wonder.
And as always.. I use my own Mathematical algorithms using AP3 and this time with photoshop.

With this creation, I used similar numbers from my own mathematical algorithms, that I used in the last Galaxy Abstract, at the top or the page. But this time I used a little twist, changed some numbers around and designed a fun and colorful fantasy of young galaxies beginning to spin out on their own.

DH to look one look at this Abstract creation and said, ” It looks like a, Galaxy Rose“. So the the title stuck.
I took my love of circles and keep going until I created this space fairing Rose, using my own mathematical Algorithms.

For something a wee bit different, I decided to create repeating diamond like shapes into infinity, using my own mathematical Algorithms.
Here is something totally different.

I was trying more for a 3D repeating pattern abstract creation with some depth and I think this fits what I was looking for. Almost looks like a close of up of a knitted piece of fabric. Best seen large. I used AP3 using my mathematical algorithms.
This is just a small sample of some of the Fratal Abstract Art I have created. If you would like to look at others pleaes check out my Image Kind Gallery.
