60’s Art
It was the decade that moved on from the austerity of post-war
Britain and embraced youth with its flirty fashion, revolutionary
designers, edgy photographers and quirky models.
You no
longer had to be middle class and middle aged for people to sit up and
take notice. Leading lights from the period including David Bailey,
Mary Quant and Vidal Sassoon came from ordinary backgrounds and were
all in their early twenties as they set the sixties alight with their
inspiration.
Taken from the acclaimed BBC2 series, ‘Fame,
Fashion and Photography: the Real Blow-Up’, here are a selection of
photographs featuring seminal images from the period.
