Loxly Gallery

Loxly Gallery is an online showcase developed by photographer and digital artist Deborah Carney. For years she dreamed of having a brick and mortar gallery, at one point while living on Washington Square Park in New York City there was an empty storefront that would have been perfect that she and her son walked by everyday, planning how it would work and look. At the time it was logistically unfeasible.

Deborah exhibited in small galleries in her home town of Rochester, New York and made sales to local hotels featuring her photography of local scenes. But the dream of a gallery never died. Then the internet began to explode. Showcasing her work on sites that gave artists areas to sell their work was ok, but still not quite right. In talking to artists and photographers over the past several years it became clear that marketing online was something that still wasn’t being done the way they wanted it to be.

Loxly Gallery was then born and has grown to become a wonderful showcase for people’s art and photography.

Cool Card Shop

Cool Card Shop is an online card store developed by photographer and digital artist Deborah Carney. Cool Card Shop is a division of Loxly Gallery featuring only cards created by talented artists, designers and photographers. Their card only format gives shoppers a place to find the cards they want in the format they want at reasonable prices and in an easy to shop format.

The prizes they are donating are now added to the wonderful prizes that Imagekind have already donated making this an even more fantastic contest to enter!

This contest is the start of, we hope, many great contests on 1stAngel, where we discover new talent and then show it off…

Booth B26 at the Grand Opening of the Art-a-Fair on June 25th 2008 was packed with people wanting to see the unique wood sculptures crafted by first time International exhibitor, Rey Larreinaga, who emigrated here from Cuba less than 4 years ago. For Rey, doing business as: Afro Cuba Creations (website of the same name http://www.afrocubacreations.com )opening night was a dream come true, proving to him that America truly is the land of opportunity.

Rey’s unusual Scorpion and Lobster carvings and elegant nude torsos had conversations buzzing with excitement. Rey shared his story in his heavily accenting English; “I had no idea that I had this talent inside of Me.” He told curious art lovers.

I had no idea that I had this talent inside of Me.

In Cuba, Rey made a living selling Cigars to tourists, which is illegal and cost him a brief stay in Cuban jail in the late 1990s. After this experience, Rey went to cooking school and became a Chef in Cuba. Not once did Rey pick up a chisel in Cuba. His only “experience” in wood sculpting was watching is long-time Cuban friend carving while they discussed the trials and tribulations of living in Cuba. (more…)
