I had the wonderful experience of being part of a team that was setting up lighting in the 10,000 square foot tent in North Miami for the coming celebration of arts in that region. The physical labor was worth it, as I silently conjured the phrase “this is for the arts” while I fatigued my body by raising giant trusses on which lights would be secured to accent the visual works of sublime and intriguing ideas.

The entire set of events (the occurrence of artistry) is well described by these links.

Enjoy!

http://aquaartmiami.com/hotel.html (water water everywhere. man, I need a drink.)

http://www.newartdealers.org/miami/2008/ (oh, nothing)

http://www.pulse-art.com/pulse-miami.htm (it’s alive!)

http://www.artbaselmiamibeach.com/ (they should use basil in all the hors d’oeuvres)

http://www.artnowfair.com/ (general info, so you know, from G.I. Jo)

http://www.bridgeartfair.com/eblasts/miami/BAFmiamiblast.html

(don’t burn the bridge when you get to it)

http://criticalmiami.com/tag/art/ (contemporary history in the region)

I hope you pass the word(s) about the lunacy that goes on here.

Next post will feature two artistic giants from a little further North.

    All good things.

Walter Paul Bebirian is a wonderful artist and photographer, who I was lucky enough to interview on 1stAngel several months ago.
I was searching through his galleries (he is a prolific artist and has over 6000 galleries to peruse) and I came across this gorgeous image of flowers.

The ‘A Life in War’ exhibition covers the lives of a number of people who lived in Folkestone, came to Folkestone or who passed through Folkestone during World War One.

The exhibition features displays of photographs, postcards and letters. The exhibition provides an opportunity to find out more about World War One soldier, Toby Dodgson, and his fiancé, Marjorie Fair, whose letters featured on the ‘Sonic Benches’ - a sound installation on the Leas, created for the Folkestone Triennial by the artist Christian Boltanski.

Toby Dodgson was killed during the war and Marjorie Fair is the grandmother of military historian, Charles Fair.

Secretary of The Folkestone People’s History Centre, Colin Stephens, said: “An exhibition such as this provides a local dimension to world-changing events fought far away on a foreign field.

It also makes us realise that wars have a direct impact on those not on the front-line itself, namely on the families and sweethearts the soldiers left behind.”

The Folkestone People’s History Centre was launched by Canterbury Christ Church University in November 2005, in collaboration with The Creative Foundation, Kent County Council Arts and Libraries, local historians and archaeological services.

The Folkestone People’s History Centre is situated at the bottom of the Old High Street, Folkestone and the exhibition will take place throughout November 2008 and early December 2008.

The Folkestone People’s History Centre is normally open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1000 to 1300.

For further information please contact the Folkestone People’s History Centre on 01303 850614.
