1stAngel Review - Little Shop of Delights

July 01, 2008 By: 1stAngel Category: Pick Of The Day, Reviews, Specials, Your Sites No Comments →

TOTAL 46 / 50

Little Shop of Delights is run by two sisters, Victoria, who lives in Lincolnshire, England and makes a variety of styles of bags, totes, toiletry bags, make-up bags in fact any kind of bag you want, by hand, and Michele,  who lives in Moray, Scotland and makes luxurious body and hand soaps together with her own recipe body butters and other skin pampering treats, by hand, under the Adam and Eve label.

My purchases were labelled using recycled paper and sent in recycled packaging.

I bought, to begin with, a Handmade Pine Tar Soap for my bf as he always puts up with the Dove I normally use.  I thought this would be nice for him as the description said “Pine Tar is a firm favourite with men”.  As he is a powerlifter he usually needs all the help he can get and soaps are a tough thing to find for men in the normal supermarkets, unless you want to purchase an additive riddled kind, which I don’t.

The soap arrived within two days and I was a little chagrined to see the size of it as there is no image or mention of the actual size, or any image of it wrapped, just the large ‘before cut’ version.  I also didnt see any mention of a size in the description.  I had imagined it slightly larger. (The shop has now been updated, since writing this, with the sizes of the goods :-) ) However, I was nicely surprised at the lovely wrapping.  It had been put together with thought and care and  told me the ingredients properly.

The smell of the soap is very deep and even though it is a unisex soap, I do believe this is more a mans soap and would be well advertised as such.  The aroma is strong and powerful and this is not really a soap before bedtime, well not if sleeping is what you have in mind!  It also will last longer than I thought as it doesn’t lather away like some soaps do, and it was lovely to rub in (his words). In fact, it was so good he did his hair in it and, as it is natural and the fact he is a guy, he was really pleased with the fact he could do this.

Chris Simms comes to Sale, Manchester

June 20, 2008 By: 1stAngel Category: Book Club, Literature, Reviews, Specials, Things We Have Found, Your Sites 1 Comment →

Chris Simms, a well known and excellent crime writer, based in Manchester, came and gave a talk at my local library at Coppice Avenue this evening! Good? You better believe it! Chris has been named by Waterstone’s as one of their ‘25 Authors For The Future and his excellent novels include;

Outside The White Lines
Pecking Order
Killing The Beasts
Shifting Skin
Savage Moon

and the latest, the fourth in the highly acclaimed Jon Spicer series, Hell’s Fire. I was very lucky to have had the opportunity to read this before meeting him thanks to Debbie, beloved leader of our Killer Thriller Group.

Chris is a quiet, well spoken man, who chatted about his university years, (studying social psychology at Newcastle), through to working at a battery hen farm, which lasted all of three hours and became the thought behind his superb book, Pecking Order, a rather disturbing psychological thriller.

He told us of the rejections he received when he first started sending his first book to agents and I wonder what they think now, seeing how successful he is. He led us through the difficulties of having work published but, you have to feel looking at him, that he loves what he does now and that it was well worth the time and effort it took him to get seen.

He researches his books thoroughly before writing and you can see that as you read through them. Every subject is brought to life cleverly and with a feeling that you have learned something as well as read a gruesome thriller.

He has a very loving, supportive wife, and he works his writing time into a busy family life, having four lively children.

Two actors accompanied Chris and played an act from Savage Moon, a dark and gory novel, in which the body of a woman with her throat ripped out is found on Saddleworth Moor, near Manchester. She is discovered in an area where numerous sightings of a mysterious big black cat have been made. When analysis shows the hairs caught under her nails are those of a panther, it’s assumed the animal has killed its first human victim. But then a man DI Jon Spicer is investigating as part of an entirely different case is murdered in exactly the same way. Only this time the body is found in a secluded car park - a popular gay rendezvous far closer to the city centre. Soon DI Spicer finds himself hunting a killer dubbed The Monster of the Moor, a creature whose stealth and savagery strike terror into the local population and way beyond.

The actors brought to life the scene in which Jon Spicer visits the murdered woman’s farmer husband. Jon Spicer dressed stiffly in a suit instead of the rugby shirt he seems to find more comfortable, Grief and anger from the farmer and perhaps something else…..ah read the book! (Thanks guys, it was great)

Chris is busy writing a fifth novel that includes DI Jon Spicer and Hell’s Fire, a book with a highly charged religious theme, is already in reprint so get your copy as soon as you can! In Hell’s Fire, the deliberate torching of a church creates outrage across Manchester. And when a charred corpse and satanic symbols are found in the smoking ruins, DI Jon Spicer and the city’s Major Incident Team are called in.

Soon DI Spicer finds himself drawn into the depths of a horrifying underworld he didn’t know existed. With fresh killings comes the realisation that those responsible are prepared to commit unspeakable acts of evil in homage to their God.

DI Spicer knows the atrocities must be halted, but even in his worst nightmares he could never imagine how close to home the investigation will take him. As the case threatens to engulf Manchester in fires of hatred, can Spicer and those he loves escape unharmed?

You can read more about Chris, and see sample extracts from his books at, http://chrissimms.info and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you very much to him for visiting Sale and giving us a lovely, memorable, evening.

A BEAUTIFUL hand crafted vase!

June 15, 2008 By: 1stAngel Category: Art, Specials, Things We Have Found No Comments →

Description by Stormy Designs

This is a One Of A Kind handmade polymer clay on glass vase. The pattern is from a mokume gane clay sheet which I used to cover the glass vase. The swirling abstract pattern is of purple, silver, pink and blue and has been worked with a needle tool to add contrast and texture. After heat curing I hand buffed it to bring out the color and shine.

It is signed and dated on the bottom.

I can not duplicate the pattern of this vase so this is truly a unique One Of A Kind item that only one person will own.

Handwashable with mild soap and water, buff outside dry with a soft cloth such as a t-shirt.

Use this gorgeous vase to hold an arrangement of flowers or to decorate a shelf or table. It would be a great gift for yourself or someone special.

The vase measures 7 & 1/4 in. tall and is 4 & 1/2 in. wide at the mouth and also at the wider part near the base.

Universal loses promo CD battle

June 13, 2008 By: 1stAngel Category: Movies, Music, Specials No Comments →

Music giant Universal Music Group has lost a court battle to stop an eBay trader from reselling promotional CDs he had bought from second hand stores.

Troy Augusto makes money by snapping up rare albums and selling them on the online auction site.

Universal accused him of copyright infringement, saying some of the items he offered were promotional copies and not authorised for sale to the public.

But a US judge ruled that Mr Augusto had the right to sell the CDs.

Universal said it planned to appeal against the ruling and was confident that it would win.

“We believe that the court’s analysis is incorrect in a number of critical respects,” a spokesman said.

The outcome applies only to US law, but observers say the case has been watched keenly in the UK.

The ruling comes as a UK-based DJ was arrested on suspicion of selling more than 150 pre-release albums on eBay, weeks before their official release.

If charges were brought, it is thought it would be the first case of its kind in the UK. (more…)

Hambone

March 26, 2008 By: 1stAngel Category: Art, Specials No Comments →

I was introduced to a new artist tonight by a friend.

Hambone is a self taught Creole Choctaw who grew up in the bayou country of Louisiana. His work is absolutely amazing and I fell in love with it straight away.

On the front page of his site he says, ‘When you find your memory in one of my paintings, I have done my job!’ Well, I was born and bred in Yorkshire in England, and I definitely found some of MY memories in his paintings even though I come from a different world.

Please visit his site today, see if you can find one of yours…
