Chris Simms – New novel on track and a new style looming?
“Latest news on my next novel (provisionally titled, Cut Adrift) is that it got past the editor at my literary agent’s relatively unscathed by her red biro.” said Chris in his latest newsletter…actually his first. ” Previous manuscripts have come back looking like Freddy Kruger has been cleaning his claw on them.”
He continues, “In the meantime, I’ll start looking more closely at ideas for my next novel. At the moment, two possibilities are the strongest. One involves DI Spicer having a brush with Irish criminals bringing dogs over for illegal fights around the north-west. The plot has the potential to take Jon over to the wild and rugged coast of Galway (regular readers will know I like unspoilt terrain in my novels). It can also involve a visit to a clanking, stinking monstrosity that is a pet-food factory (regular readers will also know I like dark, disturbing settings in my novels).
“The other idea involves DI Spicer getting a well-earned break, since the book will be a novel suitable for the 9 to 12 year age–range. The premise for the entire thing is based on one of those things you see everyday that, when approached from a slightly surreal angle, opens up a world of fantastical possibilities involving alien creatures, children who can commune with animals and, naturally, nasty grown-ups.”
So could we see an end to DI Spicer? Will Chris concentrate on a series of books for children now?
I can’t wait to see!
