Los Angeles, CA, December 7th, 2009- Multi-platinum rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars are ready to reveal the Faces of Mars when their highly anticipated upcoming album, THIS IS WAR (EMI/Virgin) hits stores this Tuesday, December 8, 2009. Fans of Thirty Seconds to Mars, including additional musicians, artists and other notable participants leant their “Faces” to individual album covers. Leto blogs about the different Faces of Mars covers on his exclusive daily Buzznet blog at http://30secondstomars.buzznet.com/user/journal/5577081/. Thousands of Faces of Mars album covers will be in stores worldwide along with the original THIS IS WAR album cover. In addition, the band will make the television debut for first single “Kings & Queens”, already in the top 3 on Alternative Radio, with a performance on the Tonight Show on Thursday, December 10th. THIS IS WAR is available for pre order on iTunes and currently THIS IS WAR is streaming exclusively at http://www.iheartradio.com/iplaylist/artist/531380/ondemand.html). The band is set to tour stateside throughout December, hitting holiday radio concerts across the country.

Beyond gracing the covers of this month’s issues of Kerrang! and Rock Sound to celebrate the release of THIS IS WAR, Thirty Seconds to Mars will also be touching base with their supportive and loyal fan community through a Livestream chat on December 9th where they will answer questions from a host as well as listeners who have submitted questions to their local radio stations. Fans will be able to watch the live broadcast on the band’s Facebook page, Web site, and at Livestream.com as well as download the footage to their iPhones. The band will also make two special appearances at their Hive headquarters in Los Angeles on the 8th and 9th where they’ll sell and sign copies of This is War.

Not only did the band’s supporters have the opportunity to be on the cover of THIS IS WAR through the Faces of Mars campaign, they also had the opportunity to be a part of the album’s recording when the band teamed up with their fan community, The Echelon, earlier this year to record sounds for the record in a groundbreaking event they dubbed, “The Summit”. The band invited The Echelon members to travel to Los Angeles to take part in an impromptu recording session at Hollywood’s Avalon Club. It was so successful that Thirty Seconds to Mars decided to hold summits in 8 more countries across the world (Australia, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, Canada).

Formed by brothers Jared and Shannon Leto, Thirty Seconds to Mars have over 100 million views on YouTube, 40 million plays on MySpace and more than one million fans on iLike/Facebook. The band have won numerous awards and accolades, including an MTV Video Music Award, three MTV EMA’s, an MTV Latin and Asia Award, a Fuse Award, and three Kerrang! Awards. Thirty Seconds to Mars’ sophomore record, A Beautiful Lie hit multi-platinum status after two years of heavy touring and winning fans over, one-by-one, garnering the band a growing and loyal fan base. The record spawned two Top 5 Modern Rock singles, “From Yesterday,” which hit #1 and “The Kill” and the latter set a radio record for the longest-running hit in the history of Modern Rock radio play when it remained on the national airplay chart for more than 50 weeks following its #3 peak in 2006.
