Alan Sloey
Welcome to the Artists Blog

1stAngel: When did you first become interested in art?
Alan: I’ve been doing art of some kind i think, since I was three,..old enough to hold a pencil, so I suppose its become my life.
1stAngel: What style of art do you use most?
Alan: I don’t really know exactly what style I am as I still like to do different things…I mostly paint figurative fantasy or surrealist paintings…paintings with an emotional or spiritual edge to it
1stAngel: Has your style changed from when you first began as an artist?
Alan: My style seems to change for a while but always seems to come back to doing figurative work with a story in it…I think I might see other styles out there or ways of painting and incorporate it into myself.

1stAngel: What medium do you use?
Alan: At the moment I’m loving painting with oils on large canvasses…I paint wet on wet, and I love the blending ability of oils..and if I’m careful I can get a painting done in a sitting using oils.
1stAngel: What made you choose that medium?
Alan: Well, I shied away from it for a long time as I had some bad experiences with oils that shook my confidence as an artist..and didn’t know how to paint wet on wet..so the drying time was an annoyance… but I returned to them last year and bit by bit I’m getting better
1stAngel: Do your ideas come from life or imagination?
Alan: Mostly my imagination…in get pictures in my head and think, that will be a great image to paint,..and the images I need to do the painting I want
1stAngel: How do you choose your images and colours?
Alan: I tend to like contrasting colours..and dramatic images…so I look for poses in magazines and the internet and combine them with the colours I have in mind and voila

1stAngel: Who is your favourite artist?
Alan: I couldn’t really say…i think all art is brilliant in its own right..so it would all depend on my mood or time
1stAngel: What is your favourite piece of work by yourself?
Alan: My latest..”the story of a soul”..my confidence with the medium and subject matter was high..and I finished it in one sitting
1stAngel: How much time (on average) does it take to complete a work?
Alan: I like to try and get a painting done in one or two sittings so anywhere from an hour to 8 hours..after that I find my attention waning..and my mind working on a new painting
1stAngel: How well do you take criticism?
Alan: With one sugar and milk please…as everyone is entitled to have an opinion on things i also have the right as to that which i listen to…so ill embrace those that are truthful, and take on board what they have to say
1stAngel: What do you do to overcome a ‘block’?
Alan: Large canvas…large brushes and a bottle of red wine

1stAngel: How do you know something is ‘finished’? Is it easy to walk away?
Alan: When its done its done…I generally work from a painting in my head so I have the finished image there already
1stAngel: Have you had exhibits in galleries?
Alan: Not in galleries yet as i find the percentage that they ask of you a little high..so ive had 2 exhibitions of my own in rented units and both were a happy success

1stAngel: Have you any exhibits in galleries planned for the future?
Alan: Well im working on an exhibition at the moment about the environment and using “Mother Earth” “Gaia” as my figurative muse
1stAngel:What are your plans for the future?
Alan: Art, art, art with a side of Art…I’ll just keep honing my skills and keep painting until Im satisfied that I have given it my best shot..then sail of into the sunset with my extensive wealth from being a famous artist…only messing.. but it would definitely be nice…so buy my paintings,..seriously… BUY MY PAINTINGS…
I love your work and I thank you very much for your interview!!
