1stAngel: When did you first become interested in art? Baiko: During my childhood, our Elementary school teacher would take us to the National Museum in Amsterdam. I looked in awe at the beautiful lace, velvet and pearls worn by the elegant 17th century ladies painted by the great Dutch masters. 1stAngel: What style of art do you use most? Baiko: I am doing Ikebana which is a Japanese form of sculpture with live and non conventional materials. Frequent visits to and living in Japan brought about my passion for this ancient art.
1stAngel: Has your style changed from when you first began as an artist? Baiko: Definitely. 27 years of experience has helped me to experiment and create just about anything where my imagination takes me.
1stAngel: Do your ideas come from life or imagination? Baiko: Both. Hiking through the mountains behind our village provides me with beautiful material for my pieces. Also, I often wake up with an image in my head. 1stAngel: How do you choose your images and colours? Baiko: Sometimes I choose it and there are times when it chooses me. 1stAngel: Who is your favourite artist? Baiko: Ikebana: Sofu Teshigahara (the founder of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana), Norman Sparnon. 1stAngel: What is your favourite piece of work by yourself? Baiko: That’s difficult to say. Depending on my mood I like my minimalist work best and then there are moments where the more romantic pieces please me more.
1stAngel: Have you had exhibits in galleries? Baiko: Yes, in Tokyo 1stAngel: Have you any exhibits in galleries planned for the future? Baiko: Not yet , but offers are welcome. 1stAngel: What are your plans for the future? Baiko: Judging from all the reactions I’ve received, my work elicits calm and serenity. I think it makes ideal wall decoration for environments designed for relaxation. So calls from all interior decorators are welcome!
Before I found your gallery, I had never heard of Ikebana. I found it to be a beautiful art, one at which you excel, bringing a quiet dignity but passion to each piece. Thank you for allowing me the interview! You can view Baiko’s website HERE Blog: HERE |
