1stAngel: When did you first become interested in art?
Robin: My grandmother was talented in every medium of arts and crafts. She could sew, knit, crochet, canvas paint, design and make jewelry, decorate cakes, you name she could do it! I watched her for years doing these activities, but I was never really interested in “Arts and Crafts”. About, 5 years ago I purchased my first digital camera….and I was hooked. There is something about taking a picture and seeing it right away .
1stAngel: What style of art do you use most?
Robin: I love to photograph landscapes. I live in a beautiful part of the world, Colorado, USA. The region is called the Rocky Mountain Desert, and so, my inspiration comes from mountains, desert regions, and foothills. I also love to photograph flowers…my favorite are sunflowers. Just this year, I have begun to photograph people and animals.
1stAngel: Has your style changed from when you first began as an artist?
Robin: No, not really, I still enjoy the simplicity of landscapes and florals and the quietness of rivers and mountains. I think though, as I learn more about my craft…that I will begin to experiment with different mediums.

1stAngel: What medium do you use?
Robin: This Christmas I received a new camera, and I’m still learning all the bells and whistles. It’s a Sony 100, and it is an amazing camera. My previous camera was a Fugi; it was pretty basic, (but a good camera), and most of my photos on my website was shot with it. . I wanted to upgrade to a more advanced camera and try some new things; evolve as a photographer.
I also work in Adobe PS3 (I also received that for Christmas). It’s been time consuming to learn, but I love it!
1stAngel: What made you choose that medium?
Robin: I think it chose me. I was never interested in creating “art” until I picked up the digital camera.
1stAngel: Do your ideas come from life or imagination?
Robin: From my surroundings. I don’t have a colorful imagination and I think that is why I enjoy the simplicity of landscapes and florals . I really can’t improve on God’s handiwork.
1stAngel: How do you choose your images and colours?
Robin: When I’m out walking it’s whatever moves me…I don’t how many times I have said to myself, “Oh I wish I had my camera.” Now I take it with me wherever I go. You never know when that “perfect shot” will present it self. I let nature decided the colors!
1stAngel: Who is your favourite artist?
Robin: I enjoy more traditional photography: Places and faces. I don’t have a “favorite” artist, just favorite themes. Etsy has some amazing photographers on their site….

1stAngel: What is your favourite piece of work by yourself?
Robin: I took this photo last spring..and the little robin he was so still and just seemed to be posing..
1stAngel: How much time (on average) does it take to complete a work?
Robin: From the time I unload a photo - adjusting the photo cropping, correcting lighting, etc to matting and framed. Anywhere from 3-5 hours.
1stAngel: How well do you take criticism?
Robin: Not well, but I am learning. I respect artists who offer opinions about my work and give me ideas on techniques and improvements.
1stAngel: What do you do to overcome a ‘block’?
Robin: Take the camera and go outside. Schedule a showing or a fair so I HAVE to work.
1stAngel: How do you know something is ‘finished’? Is it easy to walk away?
Robin: No, it’s not easy to walk away, and usually when I’m dropping a photo off, whether it be portraits to clients or a framed piece to an art show, I’m still obsessing over it.
1stAngel: Have you had exhibits in galleries?
Robin: Yes, I just recently had a photo take 3rd place in “Landscape” category at “Your Best Shot” art exhibit
This photo was taken last spring in Colorado…where the desert meets the foothills and the foothill touch the Rocky Mountains.
1stAngel: Have you any exhibits in galleries planned for the future?
Robin: In March, I will have 3 photos displayed at the Blue Spruce Gallery. The exhibit begins March 6th.
1stAngel: What are your plans for the future?
Robin: I’m planning on taking several advanced photography seminars and classes. A dream is to open a studio. In the mean time I stay busy taking photographs, working on the website, my blog, “Photographer Expos: and my “etsy” shop.
Thank you Robin for allowing me the interview. I love your Robin too!
