1stAngel: When did you first become interested in art?
Naomi: I have been interested in art since my teens.

My father started dabbling in art and ended up making a living as a starving artist, starving being the operative word. However, all props do need to be given to him because he was able to squeak by a living and support the family for well over 25 years as an artist. He worked in burlap sculpture. Not many can say that.

My mother was always involved with theatre, performing in Community Theatre or Dinner Theatre.

1stAngel: What style of art do you use most?
Naomi: I don’t know if you can say I have a real style. This is one reason I call myself an eclectic expressionism artist. I get bored easily and do not want to get pigeon holed into one way of painting. I paint whatever feels right for me at the time. This is actually the first time I have concentrated on producing an actual series, in a specific “style.” The current series is my Emotions series. If I have a leaning, I would say it would be a leaning more towards surrealism, though the current series is expressionism that is more contemporary

1stAngel: Has your style changed from when you first began as an artist?
Naomi: Yes, it has; however, more in being able to express myself, rather than just painting what I see.

1stAngel: What medium do you use?
Naomi: Oils

1stAngel: What made you choose that medium?
Naomi: I use to paint in only acrylics; however, a fellow artist convinced me to start working in oils. I have not turned back. I like the fact that with oils I can work with them for a longer period. Although, I don’t think I will give up the acrylics completely.

1stAngel: Do your ideas come from life or imagination?
Naomi: Definitely my imagination.

1stAngel: How do you choose your images and colours?
Naomi: That is all up to God. Half the time I don’t know what is going to go on the sketch pad, then transferred to canvas, and what the colors are going to be. Only when I am finished with the canvas do I step back and fully realize what I have created. I figure God gives me the images and guides my hands, and thought processes, so I don’t mess things up too badly.

1stAngel: Who is your favourite artist?
Naomi: Henri Marguerite

1stAngel: What is your favourite piece of work by yourself?
Naomi: Currently, it is my “Love” painting from my Emotions series. I have had some wonderful feedback on that painting.

1stAngel: Have you any exhibits in galleries planned for the future?
Naomi: Not at present. My main concentration is to finish my Emotions series

1stAngel: What are your plans for the future?
Naomi: Once I have the Emotions series completed, which will be 12 paintings in total, start marketing the series to various local galleries and just go from there.

I adore your paintings, Naomi, and I thank you very much for the interview!
