Welcome to the Artists Blog !!

1stAngel: When did you first become interested in art?

tonyp: Kindergarten! I remember how excited I was when my teacher gave the class those large Crayola Crayons. God I loved the smell of those things. I started drawing Super Heroes at the age of 9. My Father bought me a darkroom set for Christmas when I was 14.

1stAngel: What style of art do you use most?

tonyp: In the beginning it was just photography (mostly B&W). I love photographing people. In my late 20’s and Early 30’s, I used to shoot fashion

1stAngel: Has your style changed from when you first began as an artist?

tonyp: Considerably, Now I used my old photographs that I shot, hand color them and then digitally manipulate them

Transformations

1stAngel: What medium do you use?

tonyp: It’s a collaboration of Black and White Photography, Hand Coloring (Secret Ingredient) and Digital Enhancement

1stAngel: What made you choose that medium?

tonyp: Photography is my first passion, however, I love to paint watercolors and I also have a passion for technology

1stAngel: Do your ideas come from life or imagination?

tonyp: Most definitely life experiences. If you look at my body of work, you will be able to see that I channel my life experiences through my art.

Search For Inner Peace

1stAngel: How do you choose your images and colours?

tonyp: It depends on my state of mind. For example: “Broken Man”. When creating this image, I felt defeated and broke down but I’m a positive person so I knew there was hope. I chose a dark pallete but if you will notice in the image, there is an upward smile which shows hope to me.

I usually go with how I feel. When I’m creating in a peaceful mood I usually use warm tones. When despondent, I usually go with cold tones. When I want to show my sensual side, always hot tones.

1stAngel: Who is your favourite artist?

tonyp: It’s a three way tie! Rembrant, Basquait and Ansel Adams

1stAngel: What is your favourite piece of work by yourself?

tonyp: “Broken Man”

Broken Man

1stAngel: How much time (on average) does it take to complete a work?

tonyp: It depends! Take “Destruction Reconstruction” for example: It was originally shot around 1997. I hand colored it around 2001 and then I digitally enhanced it, and completed it, around 2006.

Destruction Reconstruction

1stAngel: How well do you take criticism?

tonyp: Not well! It’s like someone calling your baby ugly!

1stAngel: What do you do to overcome a ‘block’?

tonyp: I put all my energy and concentration in promotion and running the business.

1stAngel: How do you know something is ‘finished’? Is it easy to walk away?

tonyp: When you can walk away satisfied.

1stAngel: Have you had exhibits in galleries?

tonyp: Yes, I’ve had several joint shows in the late 90’s and my first one man showing in 2001.
