Pick of the Day – Pat Purdy
I will be the first to tell you I do not understand most abstract art unless it is explained to me by the artist or at times the title may give me a clue. Should lack of understanding negate appreciation, I say not. In my search I came across Pat’s gallery on Fine Art America, my level of appreciation is where I would not mind going broke buying all originals of her work. Can I please be rich!
In her artist statement Pat’s pointed out she loves photography and has some beautiful pieces displayed. I came across a humorous display, which made my day, hence the double feature. I hope you will appreciate and enjoying viewing Pat’s gallery as much as I have. Thank you Pat!
I am primarily an abstract artist who loves to experiment with acrylic paint, pen, glazes and various mediums. Rhythm, colour and movement are important elements in my work. “How did you do that?” Colour is taken from the landscape around us, and reflects art travels to different parts of the world. Recent trips to Tuscany and Provence are reflected in warm earth tones and Mediterranean hues. Annual trips to the lake, serve as inspiration in “my paradise”.
I am part of an artistic family. My dad was a very creative and talented artist. My brother, Dr. Richard Purdy, is a professor of Fine Art at the University of Quebec in Trois Rivieres, Quebec. I also have a cousin Richard Purdy in New York, New York who does computer generated art.
I have been painting a number of years and have been involved in many shows. In 2005 my abstract “Tree of Life” won the Betty Andrich memorial award at the Red River Exhibition juried show. In 2009 I was accepted into the MSA, the Manitoba Society of Artists.
I love photography and want to share a few of my special photos with you
