Shari Nees

When did you first become interested in art?
When I first could hold a pencil. Was always drawing something. Even when I started in school, my answers more often than not, would be drawn.
What style of art do you use most?
Realism
Has your style changed from when you first began as an artist?
Not really, has pretty much stayed steady in that respect.

Quiet moment – Miniature horse
What medium do you use?
Right now mostly Pen & Ink with a watercolor pencil wash and Graphite.
What made you choose that medium?
For the Pen & Ink because it was the least messy medium for me to use at the time and can paint with this anywhere. Not fuss, no muss. I also like how clean and crisp the Pen & Ink makes the paintings.
Do your ideas come from life or imagination?
Both, I prefer to have a subject or nice clear pictures to use but I also have idea’s in my head about what I would like to paint.

How do you choose your images and colours?
Right now I paint what ever takes my fancy. For colors, I try to stay as close to real life as possible.
Who is your favourite artist?
Charles Wysocki and Suelleen Ross to name a couple.
What is your favourite piece of work by yourself?
Believe it or not, it is not a horse or animal, which I can tell you suprised even me.It is the Motorcycle and rider Pen & Ink I did.

FZ6 Yamaha Motorcycle
How much time (on average) does it take to complete a work?
For an Average Pen & Ink with the wash takes about 2 months but something like the Motorcycle and that level of detail, it takes about 6 months.
How well do you take criticism?
Not as well as I think I should. ;O)

Golden Tolt Icelandic Horse
What do you do to overcome a ‘block’?
So far I haven’t had that problem but I figure if I ever do, I would just do another medium or start another painting, while my brain figures things out.
How do you know something is ‘finished’? Is it easy to walk away?
If I am near the end of a painting I will walk away for a couple of days and come back with a fresh mind, I find that is the best way to do the finishing touches on a piece. Depends on each painting to how easy or hard it is to walk away.
Have you had exhibits in galleries?
Not since becoming an Adult.

Cherry Blossoms under a Fuzzy Moon
Have you any exhibits in galleries planned for the future?
Not at this time but I have hopes for this summer.
What are your plans for the future?
To keep doing what I have always loved, to paint and draw. To expand my Art and hopefully become good enough that my Art will be better known.
