The concert will feature original jazz compositions and arrangements by the students and will be held at the University’s St Gregory’s Centre for Music.
Performers will include:
Simon Whiting (drums);
Jayne Macey (flute);
Dave Brazier (clarinet and saxophone);
Kevin Thappa (saxophone);
Anthony Tunstall (trumpet);
Andy North (bass); and
Dan Buckley and
Joshua Barrett (guitar).
Director of the performance and Senior Lecturer in the University’s Music Department, James Dean, said: “This concert is a great opportunity for the students to showcase the skills they have learnt throughout their course. It also provides the public with a chance to experience the talent the students have to offer.”
Student Simon Whiting, 21, from Sevenoaks, said: “I am looking forward to playing my own piece called ‘Screw Loose’ at the concert. I have been lucky to have had the chance to get quite a bit of live playing experience since I began drumming and it has definitely helped me to be more relaxed and comfortable when performing live. I’ve always been interested in music from a young age and wanted to see how far I could take it. The options on the course were perfect for what I wanted to do.”
The concert is free of charge to the public.
St Gregory’s Centre for Music is located on North Holmes Road, Canterbury.
