Art prize for ‘brain music’ idea

is part of The Fragmented Orchestra

A music project designed to mirror the way our brains work has been named winner of the New Music Award and its £50,000 prize money.

The Fragmented Orchestra’s idea uses recording units set up at 24 sites across the UK to capture their sounds.

The sounds will be transmitted back to the Foundation for Art & Creative Technology (FACT) in Liverpool for visitors to hear.

The different locations will include a football stadium, cathedral and farm.

BAFTA award-winning filmmaker, Molly Dineen, visits Falmouth

The inaugural event of the Cornwall Skillset Media Academy at University College Falmouth could not have been more prestigious with a screening of BAFTA award-winning documentary film maker, Molly Dineen’s latest film, The Lie of the Land.

Molly is well-known and highly regarded for her films about London Zoo, the House of Lords and intimate portraits of Geri Halliwell and Tony Blair, which she achieved by interviewing them in a conversational style.

Trained at the London College of Communication and the National Film and Television School, Molly has directed ten films on a broad range of contemporary subjects, often focusing on changing institutions. She found early success with her documentary, Home from the Hill (1985), a documentary about retired soldier and safari operator, Colonel Hook. Read more
