Saving Metadata on images a thing for the future?

So far there does not seem to be a way of retaining image metadata on our images once we upload to sites.  And, even if the site we uploaded them to DOES retain them (none do thumbnail retention to date) then anyone grabs them and the data will be lost anyway.

So what does the future hold with copyright issues?

I have been lucky enough to have been testing TinEye A lovely way of finding your image across the net.  This is not good enough yet though and I can see it taking a while to make the database vast enough to find all our images if needed.

There are other programmes on the net too like this but, do they not need a modicum of likenesses in filename etc to work?  Imagine if our filenames had all been totally changed to 1.jpg and we had to search by colour,  we would end up with millions of images to sift through again.

I admit I am lost when it comes to this issue of protecting our photos and art.  If we metadate, it is stripped, and if we put copyright messages on the work no-one wants it.

Ideas anyone?

Is it so wrong to state your mind?

In the Imagekind forum, people were removing peoples images and altering them without permission. Now I have been told this is fair and that I should not have rocked the boat. HOWEVER, it is NOT fair and I should have said something…. the reason?

Comments and critique is excellent for everyone. It is how we learn and grow. Without comment and review we stay blunted and think what we are doing is the right way to go…but part of the teaching and learning is learning technique.

In my lessons I teach here for Paint Shop Pro, I take photos, MY OWN PHOTOS, and I teach technique. What people choose to do with the technique is up to them. I never presume to take an image someone has done and alter it. I never have, It teaches nothing. Oh look what I have done……

To teach someone technique, I use my own pictures and show in detail how to change the image to suit what is needed. I then hope the student will take his/her image and do the same with that and thereby change their own image to suit themselves.

Point two about that thread on IK forum. It was begun to SHOW off ones work they had recently put up. It wasn’t put up as an exercise in tuition ro review-mastership. It was put up as an exhibition on one thread of latest work. Like a huge marketing, advertising thread. An excellent way to bring all the latest stuff to one place. Show people where you are up to in your art life.

Since I have asked for my images to not be altered… since I have rocked the boat, I have put up 3-4 images and I obviously have been sent to Coventry by most of the IK members. Why? Because I stated a belief that was shared by at least one other person whose work HAD been altered? Even the IK staff felt the same way about the removal of the images so why have I been ostracised.

I am not even going to put this on IK as it will be attacked again, but this is my blog and as such I feel I can use it to display my hurt at the reaction other people have to my being honest!
