Spears’ car causes motorway crash

Pop star Britney Spears has been involved in a minor road accident on the Ventura Freeway in Los Angeles.

The 26-year-old was driving her Mercedes through slow-moving traffic when she struck a Nissan which had stopped in front of her, police said.

The Nissan bumped into another vehicle but there was no damage and nobody in any of the cars was injured.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol went to the scene but no charges will be brought, a spokesman said.

This is not the first time that Spears has been involved in a traffic accident. Read more

Island music festival cancelled

This year’s Isle of Skye music festival has been cancelled after the organisers racked up £500,000 in debts, BBC Scotland has learned.

The festival was launched in the summer of 2005 and attracted some of Britain’s biggest bands to Ashaig airstrip near Broadford.

The festival was voted the UK’s most fan-friendly in 2006.

However, it has emerged some musicians and suppliers have yet to be paid for their work at last year’s event. Read more

Metal mag reveals 2008 awards

Gallows and Bullet For My Valentine are both in the running at this year’s Metal Hammer awards.

The monthly metal magazine’s annual ceremony, now in its sixth year, takes place for the first time at London’s 02 on 16 June.

Last year’s best newcomer nominees Gallows are in the running for best live act.

Welsh metallers Bullet For My Valentine have a chance to take home a Golden God award for best UK band and best video. Read more

Radiohead spent a very special day at the BBC on Tuesday, April 1, 2008. The band played two intimate gigs (matinee and evening performances) in the BBC’s Radio Theatre and took part in a series of interviews.

Glastonbury ticket deadline extended

Glastonbury organisers are re-opening registration for tickets today at 1600 after the event did not sell out in the first two days.

Michael Eavis said on Monday that slow ticket sales were due to terrible weather in previous years, not the choice of main headliner Jay-Z.

100,000 had sold by Sunday afternoon out of a total of 137,500. Read more

Verdi masterpiece receives double Cathedral billing

University of the West of England, Bristol

Verdi’s spectacular Requiem is to be performed in Bristol and Wells by the combined voices of the University of the West of England Singers and the Wells Cathedral Oratorio Society, who will be joined by a line up of professional soloists who have performed internationally. The performances will be at Bristol Cathedral on 26 April at 19.30 and Wells Cathedral on 3 May at 19.00. Read more
