The Green Mister
This is probably the last watercolor for my one woman mini show this coming April at Art in the Valley, Corvallis Oregon. I’m using a new technique to replace liquid mask when reserving soft edged areas of white paper in many of my latest still lifes. Puddles of clear water on the paper will resist... »
Pick of the Day – Sue Ervin
ShareI am a self taught artist who continues to learn everyday. I see beauty in everything around me and do my best to try and capture it on canvas. My favorite things to paint are flowers and ‘critters’. Painting is my passion and my therapy and I try to spend at least a little... »
Spring in my Window
We planted a two ornamental cherry trees the year we moved into this house. Five years later the trees put on quite a show each Spring. The branches I take inside don’t make a dent in the abundance of blooms. I made two fundamental design decisions in painting this image. Both help make the blossoms... »
Patrick Pietropoli Debuts New Collection At Axelle Fine Arts
Share Pietropoli’s canvases are extremely detailed, large-scale works that characterize the city as an entity. Each painting utilizes color to convey tone, meaning and mood where Pietropoli’s devotion to detail and lighting make his seemingly-still images come alive. The gallery will also feature a small collection of the artist’s evocative figure paintings. Pietropoli recently moved from... »
Nautilus and Marble, Still Playing with Color
Same nautilus, new angle, new colors–after several attempts to paint the nautilus in it’s true colors, I think I understand why I keep changing them. The shell’s shadows are warmer colors than it’s highlights. Most real world objects have cooler shadows and warmer highlights. But the standards of the shell have warm local color... »

Share A painting of a windmill recently identified as a Van Gogh has gone on display at a Dutch museum. Experts at Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum concluded Le Blute-fin Mill was painted by the Dutch artist in 1886. The brightly-coloured painting, which depicts people around a Parisian mill has gone on show at the Museum de Fundatie,... »
The Opening
This is one more painting from my Valentine’s Day bouquet. In the clear glass vase the lilies are much softer and less dramatic. I emphasized the soft back-lighting. The palette is only slightly different than Lily with Carnations. I added dioxazine violet which I substituted for phthalo blue when underpainting the lilies.... »
Lily With Red Carnations
Yes there are red carnations in the painting. You just haven’t looked closely enough. Both the carnations and the lily come from the Valentine’s Day bouquet my husband gave me this year. The Danish silverware vase was my Mother’s. So the painting is a family affair. The fact that the lily inevitably points... »
Micheal Lemus-Fletchall
http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/micheal-lemusfletchall.html When did you first become interested in art? I think I’ve always been (at least to some degree) interested in art since a very young age. Around the age of two, my mother nicknamed me ‘MicheAnge’, due to my constant creating and expression. It first really began to take hold when I was around eight... »
All Tangled Up by Julie Hill
Share Love this painting. I have a friend who gets home in stitches (literally) playng this game here in the UK. The players love the cut and thrust but, just occasionally, the cuts are real. Scares the life out of me This painting is another from Julie Hill, the wonderful artist that won our... »
