Fear

fear cold and wet

hairs alert

feel the eyes on her

her eyes moving side to side in the dark to see

ears open

drinking in the silence

one foot in front of the other, teeth clenched to stop them chatter

no-one there no-one there

praying to a god that is not believed in

to keep her safe

her bed is a groove under a hedge

her food is a found half sandwich from the bin

her drink is a puddle that lays on her way home

her mother cries that she has not seen her for so long

the girl is scared but more scared of home

a noise

her fear overtakes her and she runs

feet tripping over each other in her haste

she drops her dinner too scared to pick it up she runs

trembling under her shelter once reached

tears dripping onto her empty hands

silent tears

on the path she has left

the fox gulps down the sandwich

a noise

fear cold and wet

hairs alert

feel the eyes on him

his eyes moving side to side in the dark to see

ears open

drinking in the silence

he runs

Abbie this is an incredibly powerful poem. I am starting a poetry board on Pinterest. May I post it here with proper attribution to you, of course?
