A few months ago, whilst still quite new to painting, I did a commission for a neighbour of her black lab, Millie
I was never that happy with it as I knew something was off but was not sure what. I had a lot to learn at that stage
Last week Millie died. I had said I would go around and varnish the work but, instead, I asked her yesterday if I could just bring it back here as I wanted to touch it up.
When I saw it again I knew immediately what the problem was.
The issue was, I had not asked her when I took the commission, what colour her decor in her house was. Because of the darkness and the GREENness of the painting, she had the painting in her bedroom instead of downstairs where she had wanted it.
I have learned a valuable lesson for when I do this type of painting. Always check the background is not IN your FACE, and that it matches the room it will sit in. It now does
She will get it back next week. I think she will like it better now and I am hoping she does not have to hide it away
