Photographers Nightmare: How To Shoot The Perfect Wedding
Wedding photography is a huge industry, but if you do not take care, it can turn into a nightmare fast. Brides and grooms want every detail of their wedding captured perfectly, from the ceremony down to the tiniest detail, like wedding dresses and individual flower arrangements. If something goes wrong, or the couple feels like the photographer did not capture the spirit of their wedding, serious repercussions can occur. For this reason, it is important to take care when shooting a wedding, especially if you have never taken wedding photos before. Follow the steps outlined below before shooting any wedding, and you will avoid any major disasters on the couple’s big day.
Evaluate your experience
If you are new to photography, or have never shot weddings before, you may want to reconsider
taking the gig, especially if you know the couple personally. You don’t want to risk ruining the relationship or providing your friends with poor-quality wedding photos. However, if you are confident in your photography skills, go for it. Most couples appreciate a friend taking the photos of their special day, especially if it is given as a gift.
Check your equipment
Most couples expect high-quality photos for their wedding. Many people like to blow up their wedding photos and use then as decorations in their first home together. The quality of your equipment can influence how the pictures will turn out. Although picture quality does not depend on equipment as much as many non-photographers believe, a certain amount of performance from your equipment will help your photos look professional rather than amateur.
Create a contract
One way to help prevent liability when photographing a wedding is to create a contract with the couple. Include details like how long you will stay, what you will take pictures of, and who is held responsible in case of equipment failure or if the pictures are not what the couple expected. You should also include any fees and other charges that you want to receive even if the couple cancels on their photography order.
Discuss photo shoots
Before you show up to the event, discuss what kind of shots the couple would like to have of their wedding. Some couples may prefer to have more candid and non-traditional shots, while others

may want the basic group shots instead. Some couples may want more artistic photos, while others want a documentation of the actual wedding events. Discuss with your couple how they envision their photos to avoid any painful surprises after the wedding.
If you follow the above steps, you can rest assured that your wedding photography adventure will go according to plan and your pictures will stay true to the beauty of wedding dresses. Rather than leaving it all to chance, advanced planning goes a long way toward making wedding photography easier. For extra protection, always have a back-up camera and accessories in case of equipment failure or other issues. Using common sense, setting up rules in advance, and keeping a contract between yourself and the couple will ensure your wedding photography experience is more pleasure than pain.
