The yearling raced across the prairie. His father had kicked him from the herd the day before and he had to find food and water by himself. Normally his grandmother told the herd the safe places to graze. He was headed to the green pastures they had seen a week before but he was tired and hungry and his flank still hurt from the bruise caused by his fathers bite.
Soon he would have to fight for his own herd. Until then he just had to survive.
