Bravest Blood

On Armistice Day and Remembrance Day: A poem

Bravest Blood

Our bravest blood
Poppies by Dorothy Berry-Lound

Gallant, the flood of poppies red
Each, a soul of bravest blood
A soldier armed, to give his life
To fight for his nationhood

Upon the fields, in deepest mud
On wings, in clouds, and blazing sun
Upon the waves, oh mighty ships
Gallant, the noble, they fought and won!

Ours the greatest, the Commonwealth
The ever brave, they fought for highest life
Tributes upon the blood red field
Poppies honour this sacrifice…
