Last One Standing - Crispin Delgado

My imagination is a great part in my creation process. When I begin to paint or draw i try to visualize a story in my mind and as this story unfolds I begin to see details that help in the creation of the piece.

Altho I venture largely in Fantasy Art i try not to lift my feet to far from the ground of reality.  I have found that fantasy becomes far more believable when the viewer can find in their minds something that can be anchored too .  I feel that this helps the viewer become more acceptable to the fantasy I am about to unfold.

I begin first with the background color to help set the mood for the painting. This is very important to me because it helps get the ball rolling in my imagination .

After some considerable thought and a ton of research  I found what I was looking for ! What would be more better then  the wild west ? And where ? What better town then the town of  Cody in Wyoming?!

Cody  named after William Frederick Cody, primarily known better to us all as Buffalo Bill .

The town of Cody was formally known as the “Old Trail Town” . Cody is also home to where the famous Jeremiah Johnston is buried and is home to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids original Hole In The Wall.  So here is where the seeds of my minds inspiration begins . Where the story of my Character in my Painting will begin.

I know I wanted the background to have a Ghostly appearance so I needed to keep the details of the town faint with a Monochrome splash of color. I felt this would give the images a dreamy appearance. I  wanted it have the feeling as if the subject is stepping out of the image if not  perhaps even time.

To get my self in the mood I began by turning on my MP3 player and selecting a play-list to help set the feelings for the colors to paint .  I keep a variety of music from classic to rock in my MP3 player and have it ready when I am ready to create. Music helps me focus on my thoughts by blocking out everything else except the thought in hand .

With now the color set and the background completed I started to fantasize about the character. I have alot of resources to pull from with plenty of artist friends that offer not only feedback and stock but will offer sometimes to sit as model. I wanted the subject to have a western feel but not with the restrictions of that era. I wanted enough wiggle room to be able to add some fantasy.Once again i open up my imagination and begin to  Draw/Paint.

As I search my thoughts I see it’s activity in the town to be bare. Where have the town people gone ? What time is it ? I can feel the stillness of the dusty hot air and the heat of the sun on my head. In the distance a  person approaches the square. As the shadow draws closer the image begins to take form. It is the local Law and I the viewer have found myself  in her sights ! A-Ha !  So a showdown it is ! With her beauty she takes one single shot and I fall.
